In addition to his consultant training, Professor Ernest Azzopardi pursued prestigious UK GMC-approved fellowships in Swansea, London, Milan and further afield before his first NHS consultant position. He is the recipient of several periods of dedicated laser super specialisation recognised by the GMC, including the combined British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BPRAS), BAAPS, Laserplast and NHS Training Interface Group super specialist fellowships. Professor Azzopardi now dedicates his clinical time to an exclusive laser surgery practice.

Within this field, Professor Azzopardi is also a leading academic. His PhD work, awarded without corrections in 2013, was recognised with the 2014 Hunterian Professorship. This award, from the Royal College of Surgeons in England, is one of the highest accolades from the UK Surgical Community. In addition, his doctoral and post-doctoral work was awarded with the James Syme Medal from the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, the President’s Medal from BAPPS, and the Jackson Award from the British Burns Association, among others. He is a faculty member on an MSc in Aesthetic Surgery at University College London and internationally. He holds validated intellectual property in the UK, Europe and the USA. He regularly advises colleagues and peers in the NHS and private practices in the UK, Europe and Australia about challenging cases.
