Plastic, Reconstructive, Burns and Laser Surgeon

Jorge Leon-Villapalos is a Plastic, Reconstructive, Burns and Laser Surgery consultant based at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, London (UK).  He has held the Paediatric and Adult Clinical lead posts at the Burns Unit, the only Burns department looking after major burns injuries and performing complex burns reconstruction in Greater London.

He has held the posts of British Burns Association Head of Education and Chair of the London & Southeast of England Burns Network. He is the current Chair of the Special Interest and Advisory Group of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons. In addition, he was recognised as one of the Plastic Surgery Trainers of the Year in 2022.

Dr Leon-Villapalos is also a Consultant in Plastic, Reconstructive, Aesthetic Surgery and Burns at 152 Harley Street and at The London Scar Clinic, where he consults and operates privately. He leads The London Scar Clinic, a unique multidisciplinary group of scar management and reconstruction experts that includes Plastic Surgeons, Dermatologists, Scar therapists, Scar camouflage and micro-pigmentation experts and Scar Psychologists.

Prior to this, the Dr Leon-Villapalos was a Consultant in Plastic Surgery and Burns at the St Andrew’s Centre for Plastic Surgery and Burns in Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, Essex (UK). This unit, part of the London & South-East of England Burns Network, is also one of the leading Burns Units in the Country.

Furthermore, Dr Leon-Villapalos was a fellow in Adult and Paediatric Burns, also focused on intensive care at the Shriners Hospital for Burned Children in Galveston, Texas (USA). This is one of the world’s busiest and most recognized paediatric burns units. His Plastic Surgery training was completed through the Pan Thames Plastic Surgery rotation.

Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow in Plastic Surgery, he entered the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery.

Nowadays, Dr Leon-Villapalos is a member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAPRAS), British Medical Association (BMA), British Burns Association (BBA), European Burns Association (EBA), American Burns Association (ABA), International Society for Burn Injuries (ISBI) and the British Medical Laser Association (BMLA).

Dr Leon-Villapalos specialises in all aspects of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, but his main interest and subspecialties are Burns Surgery, Plastic Surgery management of difficult and complex wounds, and the reconstruction and management of scars and soft tissue loss, either cosmetic or functional of all aetiologies.

Within his career, Dr Leon-Villapalos has also gathered a vast experience in the use of Laser technology for the management of any skin condition, either functional, scar related or for skin rejuvenation, and has presented and published widely in both Plastic Surgery and Burns literature. Lastly, he has extensive medico-legal experience, both as an expert witness and as a report provider.
