Cosmetic, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery/Axillary Reduction

The procedure reduces excess tissue from under the arm to improve appearance and remove discomfort

If you have excess of breast tissue in the armpit you will probably dislike how it looks when your arm is down. It is a very common condition and can lead to issues such as discomfort or aesthetic concerns. Axillary reduction surgery works to remove the excess tissue in the breast area near the armpit. This procedure is done using excision and / or liposuction in order to ensure effective removal of excess tissue.

There are a few reasons why axillary reduction should be considered. Excess tissue can lead to discomfort in many patients due to the friction caused. Also, many patients choose the procedure as the excess tissue is undesirable for aesthetic reasons.

During the axillary reduction procedure the excess tissue is removed using excision and / or liposuction. Once the excess tissue has been removed, the wounds are closed using dissolvable sutures.

After 1-2 weeks discomfort should be gone and patients should feel recovered. Despite this, physical activity should be avoided until 6 weeks following surgery to ensure effective healing and recovery.

During an axillary reduction procedure, you will receive anaesthetic and therefore no pain or discomfort should be felt during the procedure. Following surgery, the area may be swollen and you may experience some light discomfort as the area and wound begins to heal. This discomfort and any pain can be controlled with prescribed pain medication if you feel this is necessary.

The typical procedure takes around 1 and a half hours.

Axillary reduction works to excise the excess tissue through an incision in the skin. Axillary clearance removes all the lymph nodes under the arm following breast cancer surgery.

The price for an axillary reduction starts from approximately £3,500 which includes both consultant and facility fees. The total cost will be confirmed following the initial consultation.
