Cosmetic, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery/Dimple Creation (Dimpleplasty)

Straightforward and quick surgery to create dimples on the cheeks

Dimple creation surgery (or dimpleplasty) is an increasingly popular cosmetic procedure used to create dimples on the cheeks.

Dimples are naturally occurring in many people however others may not have these and desire to have them added. Dimples can be seen as a means to add further contours to the face. Additionally, some individuals are born with one dimple and opt for dimple creation on the other cheek to add symmetry to the face.

Dimples are seen as a very attractive trait, and in some cultures, they are also associated with a sign of good fortune, leading to more people bearing a desire to have dimples.

When dimples are naturally occurring, they are enforced by muscles between the cheeks and the mouth, leading to small dips in the skin. However, if these are not naturally occurring, one of our expert specialists can create dimples using a small surgery.

Dimple creation is quite a straightforward and quick surgery, so the recovery is quick, and downtime is limited. Following dimple creation, it may take a few weeks for the desired outcome to be achieved and visible on the face.

Individuals who smoke are advised to avoid dimple creation because this habit inhibits healing and could lead to infections and an inability for the site to heal. It is also important to remember that results will differ between each individual due to differences in facial structures.

Dimple creation surgery is a cosmetic and aesthetic treatment. Dimples are considered, by many, as a very attractive facial trait. Dimples can enforce greater contour to the face and can build self-confidence.

During the dimple creation procedure small cuts are made on the inside of each cheek. Through these incisions, the under surface of the cheek skin is sutured to the underlying muscle in the cheek. Dissolvable sutures are used during this procedure; therefore, no removal is required. The incisions will be measured to fall under the outer eye at mouth level in order to fall perfectly in line with your natural facial structure.

For around a week after dimple creation surgery, it is advised that patients consume soft foods to allow the area to heal properly. There is likely to be some discomfort for around a week post-surgery as wounds begin to heal so it is advised to be cautious of this. Patients can return to everyday activities such as driving and light activity after around 3-4 days. However, heavy physical work and activity should be avoided for around 4 weeks to allow optimal healing.

During dimple creation surgery, you will receive a local anaesthetic, so no pain or discomfort will be felt. After surgery, you may experience some pain and discomfort in the area as the site begins to heal, but this should not extend for longer than 2 weeks. Bruising may still be evident after this time, and the area may be slightly tender. Those symptoms, however, should alleviate and go away in around three weeks.
