Scar Management & Physiotherapy/Scar Excision & Revision

Combining treatments such as laser, injections and massage to improve the appearance of scarring

Scar excision and scar revision is a form of surgery that aims to cosmetically improve the appearance of your scarring, and in some cases can also help to improve scar function. Scar revisions can be performed on any area of the body and take approximately 1-2 weeks to heal over and the final result of surgery can be seen around 12-18 months posttreatment.

Although scar revisions can drastically improve the appearance of a scar it is very important to note a scar can never fully disappear. Any procedure that requires cutting of the skin will leave a scar, scar revision aims to create a neater and less visible scar than the original that with the proper aftercare can heal well and fade overtime.

The type of anaesthetic will depend on the size of the scar being revised as well as the patient’s personal preference. We use both local anaesthetic and sedation. Typically, local anaesthetic is used for smaller scars and sedation for larger or more complex scars, Sedation is also an option for nervous patients.

Depending on the location of the scar revision you will typically have your sutures in place for 5-14 days. Once these are removed you will have a dressing applied and given instructions on how long to leave this in place by your surgeon. The downtime for scar revisions are typically 2 weeks for less complicated scars.

"Saw Mr Ioannis Goutos for a scar on my hand using my insurance. Had a full hour with the doctor, which I believe is unusually long for a Harley street appointment, in a good way. I felt all my questions were answered. Questions I didn’t even know I had were also answered. I will use this same service for scars from any future surgeries. Thank you again!"

"Excellent experience through and through. Friendly staff and extended team. Mr Leon-Villapalos is an exceptional communicator and made me feel at ease throughout both of my procedures with him."
