Cosmetic, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery/Tip Rhinoplasty

Tip rhinoplasty can be used to aesthetically improve the size and shape of your nose, or help relieve some breathing problems

The shape of the nose often determines the character of the face and the tip of the nose is recognised as the most important aspect in creating a natural appearance and improve the general aesthetic harmony of the face.

The tip rhinoplasty is ideally suited to those who are unhappy with the droop of the nasal cartilage at the nosale tip but do not have any issues with the structure of the nasal bones. The tip rhinoplasty procedure can also help those with a wide nose tip, bulbous nose tip, long or short nose tip, an uneven nose tip or correct birth defects or damage caused by injuries. In addition to refining the shape of the nose can also help relieve some breathing problems too.

For a tip rhinoplasty, the consultant adjusts the structure of the cartilage at the tip, narrowing and raising the nasal profile. Most cosmetic tip rhinoplasties are performed through incisions inside the nose and across the base (also called an open rhinoplasty) with inconspicuous scars.

At 152 Harley Street, tip rhinoplasty is carried out in our state-of-the-art day case theatre and you will be able to leave shortly after your procedure.

The motivation to have tip rhinoplasty procedure is to enhance the appearance of the nose, whether that is to reduce droop of the nasal cartilage at the nose tip or help those with a wide nose tip, bulbous nose tip, long or short nose tip, or an uneven nose tip. Refining the shape of the nose can also help relieve some breathing problems too.

Tip rhinoplasty is typically not recommended for patients under the age of 18, as the nose continues to develop during adolescence. It is essential for the nose to be fully grown and matured before undergoing surgery.

Candidates for rhinoplasty should also be in good overall health, with no underlying medical conditions that could interfere with surgery or healing. Additionally, they should have realistic expectations for the outcome of their rhinoplasty procedure. While the surgery can improve the appearance of the nose, it may not result in a “perfect” nose or dramatically alter one’s appearance.

Smoking can negatively affect healing after surgery, so candidates should be non-smokers or willing to quit smoking prior to and after the procedure. Additionally, candidates with good bone and skin structure typically make good candidates for rhinoplasty, as the surgery involves reshaping the underlying bone and cartilage as well as the overlying skin.

Finally, patients should have the time and ability to recover properly after surgery. This may involve taking time off work or other activities, avoiding strenuous exercise or activities, and following the postoperative instructions of the surgeon.

To determine whether someone is a good candidate for tip rhinoplasty, it is important to have a thorough consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. The surgeon can evaluate the patient’s physical and emotional health, discuss the desired outcome of the procedure, and determine the best approach for achieving the desired results.

The consultant will make small incisions inside of the nostril and repositions and reshapes the cartilages in the nasal tip according to the specific needs of the patients.

During a tip rhinoplasty, you will be given anaesthetic and therefore no pain or discomfort will be felt during the procedure. Following treatment, you will experience swelling, bruising and potentially some minor bleeding for a few days together with the sensation of the nose being ‘bunged up’.

Tip rhinoplasty, like any other surgical procedure, carries certain risks and potential complications.

Infection is one potential risk associated with tip rhinoplasty. To reduce the risk of infection, patients will be prescribed antibiotics before and after the procedure. It’s important to follow the prescribed antibiotic regimen and to keep the surgical site clean and dry to minimise the risk of infection.

Anaesthesia can be a potential risk with any surgical procedure. However, your surgeon and anesthesiologist will take all necessary precautions to ensure your safety during the procedure.

Scarring is another potential complication that patients should be aware of. While scarring is a natural part of the healing process, a skilled surgeon will take measures to minimise scarring and ensure that any scars are as inconspicuous as possible.

Asymmetry or overcorrection of the nasal tip can also occur as a complication of tip rhinoplasty. Your surgeon will take care to ensure that the final result is symmetrical and proportional to the rest of your face. However, in rare cases, further revision surgery may be required to achieve the desired result.

To minimise the risk of complications, patients should choose a board-certified plastic surgeon with experience in tip rhinoplasty. At 152 Harley Street, you can rest assured that all our surgeons have extensive experience and are experts in their field.

A tip rhinoplasty takes around 45 minutes.

Bruising and swelling caused from a tip rhinoplasty is usually gone within about four to eight weeks. It is recommended that you do not carry out any strenuous physical activities during the recovery period. If you wear glasses, you may not be able to wear them for up to five after the procedure to ensure proper healing of the incisions.

The results of tip rhinoplasty can vary depending on the individual and the specific technique used by the surgeon. However, in general, tip rhinoplasty results are quite long-lasting.

After tip rhinoplasty, patients can expect to see an improvement in the appearance of the nasal tip. However, it can take several months for the final results to become fully apparent as the swelling subsides.

In general, the results of tip rhinoplasty are considered permanent. The cartilage and tissue that have been reshaped or removed during the procedure will not grow back. However, the ageing process and changes in weight or skin elasticity can affect the appearance of the nose over time.

It’s important for patients to maintain a stable weight and to avoid any trauma to the nose to ensure the longevity of the results. It is also important that you follow all postoperative instructions provided by your surgeon, including avoiding strenuous activity, avoiding blowing your nose, and protecting your nose from the sun.

Tip rhinoplasty can be combined with other procedures to enhance the overall appearance of the nose and face. Combining procedures can also reduce overall recovery time and cost.

Some of the most common procedures that can be combined with tip rhinoplasty include:

Chin augmentation: A small or recessed chin can make the nose appear larger or more prominent. Combining chin augmentation with tip rhinoplasty can create a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing facial profile.

Lip augmentation: A lack of definition or volume in the lips can affect the overall appearance of the nose and face. Combining lip augmentation with tip rhinoplasty can create a more harmonious and balanced appearance.

Facelift: A facelift can address sagging skin and wrinkles in the lower face and neck. Combining a facelift with tip rhinoplasty can create a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

You should discuss all your potential procedures during your initial consultation. Your surgeon will assess your goals and determine the best approach for achieving the desired results. They can also discuss the potential risks and benefits of combining procedures and provide guidance on postoperative care and recovery.

The price for a tip rhinoplasty starts from approximately £4,200 which includes both consultant and facility fees. The total cost will be confirmed following the initial consultation.

"The idea of having my nose corrected made me really conflicted. I thought my friends would take the mickey out of me, and I’d never hear the end of it, and that everybody at work would know what I’d done. That felt really embarrassing. Having said that, I felt embarrassed anyway in some situations, due to my nose. My surgeon suggested I have a session with Amber to help me make a decision about what to do. It was brilliant. I’ve never had therapy before, but it was so helpful to talk about not just my feelings about my nose and my worries about the actual procedure but also my confidence issues, which has had a huge impact on my life. Probably as much as my smaller nose."

"I've just recently had a rhinoplasty procedure carried out by Mr Taghi. I've been unhappy with my nose for as long as I can remember. My nose was long, uneven and bulbous, not a great combination. I've researched into having my nose re shaped on and off over the years, but never felt comfortable with any of the surgeons I met. I first had a consultation with Mr Taghi in April and immediately felt at ease with him. He was exceptionally professional, polite and courteous. He took his time to explain the procedure, what to expect, what could be achieved. I've felt rushed by other surgeons in the past, but Mr Taghi took his time, asked if I had any questions or needed anything explained again or in further detail. It was obvious to me straight away that his knowledge and expertise were absolutely outstanding. Mr Taghi told me not to make any decisions and to take my time to decide if I wanted to go ahead. I knew from this first consultation that I would definitely be going ahead with the procedure and that I had finally found the surgeon I had been looking for. I then went onto having a second consultation, which was just as informative and relaxed as the first. I then booked a date for my procedure. I am absolutely over the moon with my new nose!! Its better than I could ever have imagined. I finally have a neat, straight nose that I am no longer conscious of. Mr Taghi is an exceptional surgeon and one I would confidently recommend. His professional, polite and caring manner is superb. I wasn't even nervous leading up to the procedure and even on the day, I was just excited as I knew I had found a great surgeon. Aftercare has been fantastic as well. I saw Mr Taghi a few days ago to have the cast removed, I have another check up appointment booked for September and was told that If I'm worried about anything or not sure of any aspects of the healing process, to contact him straight away. I could not be happier and I am so glad that I went ahead with Mr Taghi, as I have at last got the nose I always wished I had."

"Amazing! Dr. Ion is an angel. I had a very difficult nose as my tip was dropping and my middle part was very narrow. I was aware that finding a surgeon for tip work is very difficult as it is easier to straighten a bump or hook nose but a tip is all cartilage and the surgeon has to be very technically skilled to do this. It is very hard to find a surgeon to do good tip work. Eventually, I found Dr. Ion through social media and flew 13 hours from the U.S., which was worth it! He did a fantastic job! He reduced my tip and made it look so natural. It doesn't look fake or pinched it looks very natural which I love. My family was shocked at how good my nose looked as i had no swelling or bruising shortly after surgery. Dr. Ion truly is a very gifted surgeon. I had no pain. The entire experience was a breeze. A wonderful surgeon and his team and staff Laura and nurse Rosie were so warm, kind, and sweet."
